Apam Balik is also known as Terang Bulan, Martabak Manis and Min Jiang Kueh.

The batter for the pancakes is prepared with flour, eggs, sugar, baking soda, coconut milk, and water. To keep the batter from sticking to the pan, it is cooked in a thick round iron frying pan with a lot of palm margarine. The filling is next added; the most popular or traditional filling is crushed peanut granules with sugar and canned sweetcorn kernels. However, modern fillings like chocolate sprinkles and cheddar cheese are available. Then, the pancake is folded in half (hence the name: "apam balik" or "turnover pancake") and cut into a number of pieces.
